Text and translations

The original wording of the first verse was composed in the light of the expansion of the Ottoman Empire and the rivalty between Protestants and the Roman Catholic Church ("…and precipitate murder to the Pope and the Turks"). It was revised several times later and got its final form in the 18th century:
