Lift up your heads in joyful hope
General information
Lift up your heads in joyful hope is an English hymn for Christmas, written during the 18th century.
The Hymn Tune Index indicates the first published use of the text with a hymn tune was a setting headed 'Xmas', attributed to Martin Madan in the 1769 edition of the Lock Hospital's Collection of Psalm and Hymn Tunes, which was edited by Madan.
The text itself was previously published as 'HYMN CLXII' on pp169-170 of A Collection of Psalms and Hymns, Extracted from various Authors, and published by the Reverend Mr. Madan. The Fifth Edition. With an Appendix, London: 1767.
