Biography

Mark was born and raised in Ramsgate, Kent, where he attended Christ Church and joined the choir aged 7. A keen choral singer, singing in both school and church choirs, Mark then also began learning both the piano and later the organ. On starting university in Bath, Mark was forced to abandon his instrumental studies due to a lack of practice facilities but continued to sing regularly in choirs in both Kent and Somerset. On moving to Leicester to undertake further study he also sang with the Leicester Philharmonic Choir as a second tenor and joined the choir of Leicester's oldest church, St. Nicholas (where he was also later churchwarden and where he was married).

Now living in Cambridgeshire, Mark has become the choir master of his local church, St. Andrew's Isleham and is an Authorised Lay Minister in Music Ministry for the Three Rivers parish, as authorised by the Diocese Of Ely, also singing and working with the other choirs in the parish whenever possible. He also sings with, and is a committee member of, Ely Choral Society. He has begun composing music for use within his parish, and is now making that music available to mark his fortieth birthday.

He hopes to resume his instrumental studies at some point and that those will in turn feed into his compositions, which he currently considers to be somewhat basic, and to continue to sing as widely as possible. His main interest from a composition perspective is writing a cappella compositions for three or more parts, and to eventually explore as wide a range as possible of different musical styles. By day he is a planning manager for telephone call centres and when not writing or singing church music, he also writes a film blog (The Movie Evangelist) and supports a number of other film activities.
