English text
1 Behold where laughing Spring advances,
Hoary Winter's wayward child,
With sunshine beaming from his glances
Beckoning round him zephyrs mild.
He breathes upon the frozen rivers,
He bids them break their icy chain,
The streams from bondage he delivers,
And frowning Winter storms in vain.
2 He falls upon the snowy bosom
Of his slumbering mother earth,
And straight to bud, and leaf, and blossom,
Spring's creative kiss gives birth.
He breaks the clouds, and diamond show'rs
Fall sparkling on each verdant spray,
And joyous birds in woodland bowers
Sing his praise in carols gay.
