Life

Born: 1480's?

Died: 1541 or thereafter

Biography: Mahu was active in Vienna, first as trombonist to the queen's chapel (before 1528) and then as assistant (1530-39) to Arnold von Bruck, Archduke Ferdinand I's Kapellmeister. Although working within the Franco-Flemish tradition, his name has been variously thought to indicate either Flemish or Hungarian-Slovak origins. Besides Lamentationes Hieremiae his work includes a number of German motets.
