How a piece in German can be labelled as plainchant is beyond me, really. Chant is in Latin, Greek or Hebrew, but most definitely not in a vernacular language. The fact that Luther's chorale is based on a plainchant hymn (like several others) does not make the chorale fit the definition of chant. Or would we label "Von Gott will ich nicht lassen" as "folksong" because it derives from "Innsbruck ich muss dich lassen"? joachim 07:57, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
