Talk:Expectans expectavi (Orlando di Lasso)

It's probably misleading to link this to the Psalm 40 page for the text. It's not the same text. This is the offertory from the mass for the fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost (see the Solesmes 1961 Graduale Romanum page 362 for the chant).

Text for this motet is:

Expectans expectavi Dominum,
et respexit me:
et exaudivit deprecationem meam,
et immisit in os meum canticum novum,
hymnum Deo nostro.

Changed accordingly. Claude (talk) 05:36, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Claude. I should probably have added that the mass proper is obviously based on Psalm 40 (39 in the Vulgate), but the text is sufficiently different to the version currently on CPDL that I wanted to make that clear.

 Help

I added a note that it really is Psalm 39(40), but from the more ancient Psalterium Romanum from which the Graduale Romanum text is taken. The Vulgate text is considerably less ancient.

Misprint in title.

I fixed the title (expactavi -> expectavi), and I also removed the capitalization of the word "expectavi". Unlike in English, in Latin (French, Italian etc.) titles the individual words are not capitalized. Seeing them capitalized lends them an unprofessional feel. (I.e. As made by English-speaking people who do not realise that their way of capitalizing words in a title is not the rule, but the exception in the world and want to apply rules that do not apply outside the English-speaking world.)
