Description: Although centuries lie between this work and Monteverdi's Dolcissimo uscignolo with its rubric "cantato a voce piena, alla francese", it's tempting to understand the first line as a pun on "Francesca"/ full throated vocalization, notwithstanding the poet's intention of keeping his feelings to himself.

Perchè questo m'aven non o so dire
Chè quella donna che me fa languire.
Temo che non verebe a la mia trescha.

A lei sum fermo celar el mi core,
E consumarmi inanci per so amore,
Ch'al men moro per cosa gentilesca.

Donne, di vero dirve posso tanto
Che questa donna, per cui piango e canto,
È come rosa in spin morbida e fresca.
