General Information

Title: Beatam me dicent
Composer: Anonymous

Number of voices: 6vv   Voicing: SSAATB

Genre: SacredMotet

Language: Latin
Instruments: Wind ensemble
Published: 1560

Description: Transcribed from the Royal Danish Library manuscript KB 1872. The notes' values are as in the manuscript. The choice of the verse of the Magnificat and its underlay are editorial: the Sexta vox and the Bassus have “Beatam me dicent omnes gentes” as text incipit, so the original full text could have been different. As the manuscript was intended for the use of the Royal Danish Band, this setting can also be played on loud wind instruments. The notes' values within the "ligaturæ" are as follows: the left upstemmed notes are semibreves - the unstemmed notes are breves – the right downstemmed notes are longæ. The “musica ficta” suggestions are in the MIDI and MusicXML files.
