In what is now called the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord is celebrated on January 1, or the Octave of Christmas, and its propers are the same as those for Christmas Day with the exception of the Alleluia verse Multifarie olim Deus. The 1970 Missal observes New Year's Day as the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, with propers mostly drawn from the Nativity of the BVM.
