Description: This glee was published in Warren's first collection of glees printed for the noblemen and gentlemen of the Catch Club c.1762. At about this time Battishill was twice suspended from privileged membership of the club, for missing meetings. However he later won a prize medal from the club in 1771 for his glee "Come bind my hair".

Consigned to dust beneath this stone
In manhood's prime is Damon laid;
Joyless he lived, but died unknown,
In bleak misfortune's barren shade.
Loved by the muse, but loved in vain,
'Twas beauty drew his ruin on;
He saw young Daphne on the plain;
He loved, believed and was undone.
Beneath this stone the youth is laid,
O greet his ashes with a tear;
May heav'n with blessings crown his shade
And grant that peace he wanted here.
