Original text and translations

Italian.png Italian text

"Dammi un bacio!"
(E dir volli "un bacio"!).
Ma, nel mirar dei tuoi begli occhi il cielo,
fú, nel foco, maggior la lingua un gielo.
E pur con chiari accenti
ti palesò il suo ardore,
teco parlando in mute [muta?] voce.
I' so ben che tu ('l) senti:
"Datemi un bacio, o bei rubini ardenti".

English.png English translation

"Give me a kiss!"
(and I meant to say "a kiss!").
But as I gazed into the sky-blue of your eyes,
my burning passion froze my tongue.
Yet that with clear words
it showed you its yearning
speaking to you in silent sounds.
I know fully well that you can hear it:
"Give me a kiss, lovely fiery lips!"
