Editor: Edmund Gooch (submitted 2012-01-31).   Score information: A4, 2 pages, 55 kB   Copyright: Public Domain
Edition notes: The first verse and chorus only are underlaid in the source: the three subsequent verses are printed after the music, in each case followed by 'Chos.' to indicate that the chorus should be sung after each verse. The notes given in the present edition as demisemiquavers in the two upper parts in bar 16 are printed in the source as small semiquaver grace notes, and have been written out editorially. Similarly, the note given here as a semiquaver B in the first part on beat 2 of bar 19 is printed in the source as a small quaver grace note, slurred to the preceding A (which is printed there as a crotchet).

He comes, let ev'ry heart rejoice,
Behold the sacred morn;
Be chearful and lift up your voice,
The great Messiah's born.
See the heav'nly host attending,
See the God of love descending,
Pain and sorrow to endure,
Our salvation to procure.

Within a manger there behold
The blessed infant lie;
In humble dress, not robes of gold,
No, he is born to die.
See the heav'nly host attending,
See the God of love descending,
Pain and sorrow to endure,
Our salvation to procure.

To save mankind from endless death,
The Son of God came down;
To purchase for their race on earth
A never-ending crown.
See the heav'nly host attending,
See the God of love descending,
Pain and sorrow to endure,
Our salvation to procure.

The just for the unjust to die,
O matchless love divine:
But now above the heavens high
His glories ever shine.
See the heav'nly host attending,
See the God of love descending,
Pain and sorrow to endure,
Our salvation to procure.
