Latin.png Latin text

In dulci iubilo cantate Domino!
Nostri cordis gaudium est in praesepio,
et fulget ut lux solis in matris gremio.
Alpha est et O!

O Iesu parvule, requiro solum te,
Meumque sis solamen, o puer optime!
Commune per levamen, O princeps gloriae!
Trahe me post te!

O Patris caritas! O Nati lenitas
Nos omnes cadebamus per nostra crimina;
per hunc recuperamus caelorum gaudia.
Simus hic eia!

Ubi sunt gaudia? Non usquam qualia ad angelos,
canentes iucunda cantica, et cymbalis ludentes in Regis curia.
Simus hic eia!

English.png English translation

In sweet rejoicing sing to the Lord!
The Gladness of our soul, He is in the manger,
and, in Mother's lap, He shines even as the light of the sun.
The Alpha and Omega.

O tiny Jesus, You alone do I seek.
And my source of solace may You be. O most excellent lad!
Through solace, O Glorious Prince,
Draw me after You!

O charity of the Father! O gentleness of the Child!
- We were all plummeting on account of our crimes; -
[But] on account of this we are regaining the joy of heaven.
Ah, that here [heaven] we may be!

Where are the joys? Not anywhere
such as among the angels; singing pleasing songs,
and cymbals playing in the King’s court.
Ah, that here [heaven] we may be!
