Text and translations
The text used by Lassus in his setting follows the critical edition by Dr. Luca Torre, Ph.D. candidate, in his dissertation "La doppia edizione de Le lagrime di San Pietro di Luigi Tansillo tra censura e manipolazione" [The double edition of Tansillo's Le lagrime di San Pietro between censorship and manipulation] at http://www.fedoa.unina.it/8437/1/torre_luca_23.pdf.
Exegetically accepted alternatives are given in italicized parentheses and replace the preceding word. When whole verses appear in exegetically acceptable alternate versions, they are given also in italicized parentheses below the verse they replace, indented by five points.
Optional doubled consonants or spelling variations are given in square brackets.
The final motet Vide homo from the Lasso work is included for completeness.
