E i seggi ombrosi e foschi
Fanno le tue bellezze altère e conte;

bilden deine stolzen und berühmten Schönheiten;

Mesola, the Po in the distance, and the sea in front,
and within the walls and between the groves,
and the shady and dark spots
are your proud and famous beauties;
and these are the works of Alfonso, and more have never done
art or nature, and are not allowed to.

Mesola is a small town at the mouth of the Po, with a pleasure castle built by Alfonso II d’Este.
