Description: Tune for two voices (Tenor-Bass) in Wyeth's Repository, Part Second. Tune attributed to Lucius Chapin in Law's 1812 printing and by Temperley in The Hymn Tune Index. Words originally in meter 87. 87. D. (eight lines). Chapin used the first four lines of the first stanza. Widely printed in Kentucky Harmony (1816), Kentucky Harmonist (1818), The Missouri Harmony (1820), A Compilation of Genuine Church Music (1835), and The Hesperian Harp (1848). Words by Robert Robinson, 1758, with two eight-line (87. 87. D) stanzas; Chapin used the first four lines in his composition.
