Pietro Heredia studied at the collegio degli Innocenti in Vercelli and became a priest in October 1592. From 1595 to 1596 he entered the court of Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy in Turin as a musician, returned to Vercelli in 1597 and became Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Vercelli, where he remained until 1610. 1623-1629 he was organist at St. Peter's in Rome and since 1639 Kapellmeister at the Pontificio Seminario Romano (Roman seminary) and at the church Il Gesù.
