The original German text is from a hymn book from Münster (Germany) from 1677. The English translation of stanzas 1-4 is by Josaph A. Seiss form 1873. The English translation of stanza 5 is by Christoph Dalitz, because Seiss had dropped this stanza, which refers to 1 Cor 11, 23-25.

1. Schönster Herr Jesu,
Herrscher aller Herren,
Gottes und Mariä Sohn!
Dich will ich lieben,
Dich will ich ehren,
Meiner Seelen Freud und Wonn.

2. Alle die Schönheit Himmels und der Erde
ist gefasst in Dir allein.
Keiner soll immer lieber mir werden,
als Du liebster Jesu mein.

3. Schön ist das Mondlicht,
schöner ist die Sonne,
schön der Sterne große Zahl.
Jesus ist feiner, Jesus ist reiner
dann die Engel allzumal.

4. Schön sind die Blumen,
schöner sind die Menschen
in der frischen Jugendzeit.
Sie müssen sterben,
müssen verderben.
Jesus bleibt in Ewigkeit.

5. Er ist wahrhaftig
allhie gegenwärtig
in dem heilgen Sakrament.
Jesu, Dich bitt ich
Sei Du uns gnädig
jetzo und an unserm End.
