Biography

Barrow was a chorister at, and later Gentleman of, the Chapel Royal, and a copyist. He was an exact contemporary of John Beard (both boys appearing in the first performance of Esther). He was leader of the altos in subsequent oratorios, being admired by Handel for the strength of his voice and for his steadiness.
