Eighth of the nine responsories for Matins of Maundy Thursday.

A responsory is a sung response to a Scripture reading. It has two parts: a respond and a versicle. After the versicle (indicated below by V. and usually sung by a single voice or a smaller group), the second part of the respond (indicated below by a bullet) is repeated.

Latin text Responsorium: Una hora non potuistis vigilare mecum, qui exhortabamini mori pro me? Vel Judam non videtis quomodo non dormit, sed festinat tradere me Judaeis? Versus: Quid dormitis? Surgite et orate, ne intretis in tentationem. Vel Judam non videtis quomodo non dormit, sed festinat tradere me Judaeis? Spanish translation Responsorium: ¿No habéis podido vigilar conmigo una hora, vosotros que decíais que moriríais por mí? ¿No habéis visto que Judas no dormía, sino que se apresuraba a entregarme a los judíos? Versus: ¿Por qué dormís? Levantáos y orad, para que no caigáis en tentación. ¿No habéis visto que Judas no dormía, sino que se apresuraba a entregarme a los judíos?

English translation Responsory: What, could you not watch one hour with me, you that were eager to die for me? Or do you not see Judas, how he sleeps not, but makes haste to betray me to the Jews? Verse: Why do you sleep? Arise and pray, lest ye fall into temptation. Or do you not see Judas, how he sleeps not, but makes haste to betray me to the Jews? Alternative version Responsory: Could ye not watch one hour with me, ye that were ready to die for me? Or see ye not Judas, how he sleepeth not, how he maketh haste to betray me to the Jews?
