Italian text
Vergine santa d'ogni gratia piena,
che per vera et altissima humiltate
salisti al ciel onde miei preghi ascolti,
tu partoristi il fonte di pietate,
et di giustitia il sol, che rasserena
il secol pien d'errori oscuri et folti;
tre dolci et cari nomi hai in te raccolti,
madre, figliuola et sposa:
Vergine glorïosa,
donna del Re che nostri lacci à sciolti
et fatto 'l mondo libero et felice,
ne le cui sante piaghe
prego ch'appaghe il cor, vera beatrice.
English translation
by Mick Swithinbank
Holy virgin, full of mercy,
who out of the greatest true humility
ascended into heaven, whence you hear my prayers,
you bore one who is the source of all mercy
and is the sun of justice whose rays
brighten an age full of sin and strange errors;
you are precious in three ways:
as mother, son and bride.
Virgin enthroned in glory,
spouse of the King who loosed our bonds
and made the world both free and happy,
thanks to whose sacred wounds I address my prayers to you,
comfort my soul, true source of blessings.
