Description: This glee started life as "Which is the properest day to drink", scored for male company, i.e. two tenors and a bass. A fourth part was added in the mid-nineteenth century , making the glee "equally suitable for ladies and gentleman", but still retaining the more robust words. It is not known when the bowdlerization was effected.

Original text:
Which is the properest day to drink? Each is the properest day I think, why should I name but one day? Tell me but yours, I'll mention my day, let us but fix on some day. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
Bowdlerized text: Which is the properest day to sing? Each to be sure 'tis a mighty fine thing! why should I name but one day?...}}
German translation
„Welcher Tag eignet sich am besten zum Singen?
Samstag, Sonntag, Montag?“
„Jeder natürlich, es ist eine herrliche Sache!
Warum sollte ich nur einen Tag nennen?“
„Sag mir den deinen, so sage ich dir meinen Tag,
Welcher ist es? Lass uns nur einen Tag bestimmen.“
„Bravo, bravo! Warum sollte ich nur einen Tag nennen?
Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag,
Samstag, Sonntag, Montag.“
