Title: Ay, triste que vengo
Composer: Juan del Encina
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 3vv Voicing: STB, also arrangement for SATB
Genre: Secular, Villancico
Language: Spanish
Instruments: A cappella
Manuscript 1465 in Cancionero de Palacio, no. 378
Description: A cappella, but in its time it was very common to make use of some instruments ensemble (brass, for example), and in some cases, without human voices. The rule was quite simple: the music was executed with what they had at hand. Originally has its usual voicing: Tiple (soprano), Tenor and Contra (Basso). In the CMP, the time seems to be 6/2 (and not 3/2) and the notation is in half notes, but as a suggestion, it can be executed and interpreted reducing the notation to 1/4 (Ref.: Carolynn R. Lee, Australia)
