General Information

Title: Communion Service in B flat, Op. 10
Composer: Charles Villiers Stanford

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: SATB
Genre: SacredCommunion Service

Language: English
Instruments: Organ

First published: 1879
Description: Stanford's Communion setting, part of his Morning and Evening Service, together with the Office of Holy Communion in B flat major, Op.10, originally included the following movements:

  • Kyrie (decalogue responses)
  • Gospel responses
  • Credo
  • Sursum corda
  • Sanctus
  • Gloria
  • Final Amen

In common with his other Communion settings, Stanford did not provide a Ninefold Kyrie, Benedictus or Agnus Dei. The Benedictus and Agnus Dei in F may be used with this setting. His later Benedictus and Agnus Dei in B flat was written to complement his Communion Service in G rather than this setting.
