When Joseph was an old man, an old man was he,
He married virgin Mary in the land of Galilee.
When Joseph and Mary walked through an orchard green,
there were cherries and berries, as thick as might be seen.

Young Mary said to Joseph, so meek and so mild:
“Joseph, gather me some cherries, for I am with child”.
Joseph flew in anger, in anger flew he.
“Let the father of the baby gather cherries for thee”.

Then up spoke baby Jesus from in his mother’s womb,
“Bow down, ye tallest branches so my mother might have some”.
And the cherry tree bowed down, bowed low to the ground,
and Mary gathered cherries while Joseph stood around.

Then Joseph took Mary all on his right knee,
crying “Lord, have mercy for what I have done to Thee".
As Joseph was awalking, an angel did sing
and Mary’s child at midnight was born to be our King!
