Latin text Pater peccavi in caelum, et coram te: jam non sum dignus vocari filius tuus: fac me sicut unum ex mercenariis tuis.

Quanti mercenarii in domo patris mei abundant panibus, ego autem hic fame pereo! Surgam, et ibo ad patrem meum, et dicam ei: fac me sicut unum ex mercenariis tuis.

English translation Father, I have sinned before heaven and in thy sight! I am unworthy to be called thy son. Let me be as one of thy servants!

So many servants have bread in abundance at my father's house, and I perish here from hunger! I shall go to my father and say: let me be as one of thy servants!
