Biography
Composer, teacher, and performer of music, poet, inventor. Married Cynthia Richards. Moved 1807-1810 from Dedham, Massachusetts, to Ashford, Windham County, Connecticut. Led the music at laying of the cornerstone of the Bunker Hill Monument. A prominent Mason. Between 1810 and 1826 he received patents for improved looms, improved wagon springs, machine for weaving, machine for shelling corn, and machine for bending wheel tires. The patent for improved looms was apparently of some interest to President Thomas Jefferson, but Janes received little profit from his inventions.
