Category:Lent IV
From ChoralWiki
This subcategory of Lent is for works proper to the Fourth Sunday of Lent, also known as Laetare Sunday from the introit, Laetare Jerusalem. The other traditional propers are: Laetatus sum (gradual), Qui confidunt (tract), Laudate Dominum, quia benignus est (offertory) and Jerusalem quae aedificatur (communion).
The Second Vatican Council's reform of the lectionary replaced the Gospel of the loaves and fishes with the healing of the blind man (John 9, year A), Moses lifting up the serpent (John 3:14, year B), and the parable of prodigal son (Luke 15, year C). The 1990 Gregorian Missal supplies the additional communion antiphons Lutum fecit (year B) and Oportet te (year C).
On this day rejoicing is reflected in the rose colored vestments (also worn on Gaudete Sunday) and the relaxing of the prohibition on organ playing during Lent.
