Biography

John Augustus Sterry was born in Norwich, Connecticut. He became an organist and composer in Norwich. He was the business manager, conductor, and composer of The Continental Vocalists. The group was a successful and popular band of Connecticut natives, playing instruments and singing. They toured the country and were well received. He was editor of “The Continental Glee-Book,” and composed sacred music, glees, quartets, and songs. He died in Norwich.
