Description: The lyrics are a translation of Philipp Melanchtons distichon Vesperam iam venit. This translation is published first as 8th stanza of a song Danket dem Herrn heut und allzeit in a 1570 collection of some songs by Herman to be sung after dinner (an stadt des Gracias zu singen, nach dem Essen). In 1611 Selnecker used this 8th stanza as the first of his own choral Ach bleib bei uns as it became in use in lutheran churches (e.g. BWV6)
