Italian text Ah, che non si conviene romper la fede a chi la fe’ mantiene. Il mio fermo voler è quell’istesso lontan da voi, ch’esservi suole appresso, nè può cangiarlo morte, nè sia malvagia sorte: ma, fermo come a l’onda immobil scoglio, e viver vostro e morir vostro io voglio.

English translation Alas, it’s unwise to wrest faith from he who has it. My love remains constant, be I faraway or near you, and not even death can change it nor bad luck: thus, steady as a rock in a storm, to live and die with you is my desire.
