Alma, perché sì trista ognor ti duoli?
Se'l ben ch'al mondo tutt'oggi si cela
A noi sol si rivela.
Per questo son miei affanni al mondo soli,
Ché'l ben che noi proviamo è di tal sorte
Che'n me non cape e s'io'l dicessi lei,
A torto offenderei
E tanta pena sento in no'l potere
Altrui ridir ch'io non vorrei godere,
Però s'io trista mi doglio sì forte
Il troppo ben che mi conduce a morte.
