French text Old French Amour me poingt et si ne me veult plaindre ma peine double et sans espoir demeure par quoi vault mieulx quen me taisant ie meure doulc'est la mort qui peult doleur estaindre Modern French Amour me fait souffrir et si je ne veux me plaindre ma peine double et demeure sans espoir, par quoi il vaut mieux que je reste en me taisant. Douce est la mort qui peut éteindre la douleur.

English translation Love hurts, and yet if I should refrain from complaining, my pain will double and remain without hope. Let me therefore remain quiet, sweet death will put and end to my suffering.
