I can hear the magpie’s carolling call
Liquid notes pouring out as they rise and they fall
Locked together, then sliding, entwining
‘Ere the sun feels the top of the cypress tree tall.
Long rays stripe the paddocks and lawn
But dark shadows belie the sun’s shining,
Hold their mystery close in the cool early morn.
I step out in the fresh morning air
The sky is pale blue and so clear,
so pale, so blue, so clear.
Horses wait for their breakfast of hay,
Standing still in the shadows at the start of the day,
Distant paddocks are now shining golden
Though blue shadows still stalk from the mountains far away,
I can hear the magpie, the sky is pale blue and so clear.
