Latin text
Deus, ne me objurga in furore,
neque in ira tua me castiga,
sed respice, & miserere mei,
namque exhausta est vis cordis mei,
eripe me potenter, summe Deus,
libera me jam ab aeterna morte,
nam in sepulchri vinculis detentus.
Quis est qui te Deus possit laudare?
Defatigatus sum sic suspirando,
rigans lachrymis vultum & lectum meum,
consenui cum inimicis tantis,
sed nunc procul a me, ô vos perversi,
fugite, nam me Dominus Jehova respexit laeto
& clementi vultu.
Original text and translations may be found at Psalm 6.
N.B. This setting's text bears only a passing resemblance to that psalm, the source text having been paraphrased and cast in sonnet form by Francesco Bembo (1544-1699): there is also a contemporary translation of that sonnet in English, even more tenuously linked to a verbatim translation of the source text.
