English text
Home, happy home, to thy portals I fly,
Drawn by the ties that no absence can sever;
Dim with the teardrops of joy is the eye,
Gazing upon thee as fondly as ever.
Home of my childhood no longer I roam;
Home of my childhood, my dear happy home,
Nearer, and dearer than ever.
When thro’ the mansions of greatness I’ve strayed,
Fashioned in beauty, and garnished with treasure;
Sadly I’ve turned from the pride and parade,
Longed for my home and its innocent pleasure.
No gaudy pleasures emblazon thy halls,
Humble art thou as the flow’r of the wildwood;
But there’s a charm which my spirit enthralls,
Here in the dear happy home of my childhood.
Loved ones, the season of absence is o’er,
When the low spirit complained in its sadness,
’Round the dear hearth let us meet as of yore,
Blending together our griefs and our sadness.
