English text
O Lord how are my foes increast,
which vexe me more and more!
they kill my heart, when as they say,
God can him not restore.
But thou O Lord art my defence,
when I am hard bested,
my worship and mine honour both,
and thou holdst vp my head.
Then with my voice vnto the Lord
I did both call and cry:
And he out of his holy hill
did heare me by and by.
I laid me downe and quietly
I slept and rose againe:
For why? I know assuredly,
the Lord wil me sustaine.
If ten thousand had hem’d me in,
I could not be afraid:
For thou art still my Lord my God,
my Sauiour and my aid.
Rise vp therefore, saue me my God,
for now to thee I call:
For thou hast broke the cheekes & teeth
of these wicked men all.
Saluation only doth belong
to thee O Lord aboue:
Thou dost bestow vpon thy folke
thy blessing and thy loue.
