Un foco sol la Donna nostra accese
Divino in terra e quello in ciel l’accende
Quella stessa bontà chiara hor comprende
L’intelletto ch’in parte già comprese

Cangiar obietto o variar pensiero

One fire alone lighted Our Lady ,
A divine fire on earth lit in heaven.
That same bright goodness now encompasses
the intellect, which in part already

understood the words that the ear
first heard through heavenly harmony.
Immortal with God, she now receives in heaven the title
‘Mother’, which she carried here on earth, as mother of his mortal form.

It was never the purpose to change object or thought,
because her beautiful senses
were absorbed and overcome by reason.

For from the very first day, her eyes were open
to truth and her mind was always kindled,
surrounded and purged by the fire.
