Anna bella, gentil, cortes’e saggia,
D’ogni virtù, di fede e d’amor tempio,
Stella del alto ciel ch’ove s’irragia
L’alta beltà ne pat’ogn’altro scempio.

Luce degl’occhi miei, lucido sole,
riposo del mio cor, alma mia bella,
Deh, per pietà non siate si rubella.
Ahi che mi fate torto,
lasciandomi mancar senza conforto.

German translation

Anna: schön, edel, sittsam und weise,
Tempel jeglicher Tugend, Treue und Liebe,
Stern des erhabenen Himmels, sodass, wo er erstrahlt,
jede andere Schönheit dadurch eine Niederlage erleidet.

Licht meiner Augen, leuchtende Sonne,
Zuflucht meines Herzens, meine schöne Seele.
Ach, habt Mitleid, seid nicht so feindselig,
ihr tut mir Unrecht,
wenn ihr mich ohne Trost leiden lasst.

English translation

Anna: beautiful, gentle, decent and sage,
temple of any virtue, faith and love,
star of the sublime sky, such that, wherever it blazes,
any other beauty suffers defeat.

Light of my eyes, blazing sun,
refuge of my heart, my beautiful soul.
Alas, have pity, don’t be so hostile,
you do me wrong,
if you make me suffer without consolation.
