Katie is a maiden fair,
Very fair to view;
Azure eyes and golden hair,
Cheeks of rosy hue.
Dainty is her step and mien,
Saucy is her smile;
Little does she guess, I ween,
How her charms beguile.

Katie is the fairest prize
Man could hope to win:
Fragrant are her very thoughts,
Born of truth within.
Soul as pure as she is fair,
Mind and thoughts serene,
Dare I hope to win and wear,
Of all girls the queen.

Now and then a mantling flush
Brings sweet hope to me,
Sure, she’d not so softly blush,
And yet cruel be.
Lovelit eyes and glowing cheek,
Can’t their truth disown;
What care I for lips to speak,
While her heart’s my own.
