Italian.png Italian text

Io son di neve al sol, di cera al foco,
Che se l’un mi disfa, l’altro m’accende,
Onde vo consumando a poco a poco,
Ch’Amor in caldo et fredd’humor mi rende.

English.png English translation

I am like snow in the sun, wax in the fire,
for one dissolves me, the other burns me,
whence I consume myself by and by,
because Amor puts me in hot and cold moods.
If you, my beloved, don’t allow me time and place
to close the wound that causes my woe,
then by such heavy and infinite pain
you will lose your lover, and I will lose my life.
