Title: Miseremini mei
Composer: Jean Richafort
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 4vv Voicings: STTB or ATTB
Genre: Sacred, Motet
Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella
First published: 1519 in Motetti de la corona (Petrucci), Volume 2, no. 4
2nd published: 1534 in Motettorum, Book 1 (Pierre Attaingnant), no. 22
Description: From one of the Lessons at Matins for the Dead (see for example one of Lasso's settings). This motet has no composer attribution in Attaingnant's 1534 partbooks, but in other sources there are three ascriptions to Richafort, one to Mouton, and one to Josquin. So probably Richafort is the most likely candidate.

Original text and translations
Iob 19, vs. 21-22:
Latin text
Miseremini mei, miseremini mei, saltem vos, amici mei, quia manus Domini tetigit me.
Quare persequimini me sicut Deus, et carnibus meis saturamini?
Iob 7, vs. 5:
Cutis mea aruit et contracta est.
Miseremini mei, miseremini mei, saltem vos, amici mei.
English text
Have mercy on me, have compassion on me, at least you, my friends, because the hand of the Lord has touched me.
Why do you persecute me just as God does, and satiate yourselves with my flesh?
My skin is dried up and tightened.
Pity me, at least you, my friends, have pity on me.
