English text
When the Dawning twilight
Wakes up drowsy day,
Forth of heaven’s high portals,
Bounds the lark away,
Earthly music mingling
With the angels’ lays,
Loud and long he wafteth
Nature’s grateful praise!
When, in dazzling glory
Reigns the orb of day,
Over mead and mountain,
With majestic sway,
In the covert hiding,
From his searching gaze,
Blackbird, thrush, and linnet,
Lift their choral praise!
When eve’s mystic gleaming
Floats o’er earth her veil,
In the dreamy thicket,
Pipes the nightingale;
Heed, proud man, the lesson
Which this truth conveys,
And with heart untiring
Sound thy Maker’s praise!
