Arise, O Year in garments pure and white,
The snow-light radiant on thy wings,
Arise, and with thee bear to mortal sight
The hope that round thy coming clings.

We look for thee, O dawning year,
Thro’ night’s long dreariness.
We long for thee, to lighten care,
And ease our weariness.

Arise, O Year, amidst our toil and strife;
With child-hand clasp the branch of peace,
Arise o’er ev’ry crush’d heartbroken life,
With deathless pledge of victories.

We look for thee, O stainless year,
Of pureness undespoil’d;
We pray that thou may’st ever wear,
Thy chrisom-robe unsoil’d.

Arise, and comfort those into whose eyes
Their well-belov’d have smil’d farewell:
Arise, and set our treasure in the skies,
That there in rest our heart may dwell.

We look for thee, O fadeless year,
When earth’s frail flow’rs are gone,
