O fortunata rosa,
Che tolta dianzi dal materno stelo,
Hor ti riposi fra le mamm'e'l velo.
Chi di te loco ò stato
Con miglior sorte ha mai rosa cangiato?
Ch'eri fra spine ascosa,
Hor sei fra rose, o fortunata rosa.

English.png English translation

O most fortunate rose,
just recently plucked from your nurturing stem,
now you rest between the breasts and the veil.
What rose has ever changed place or situation
with greater good fortune than you?
You who were hidden amidst thorns,
are now amidst roses, o most fortunate rose.

Translation Anthony Newcomb
