The moon is high in the heaven, my love,
And her face is bright and fair;
’Twas such a night when I met thee, love,
And my heart was light as air.

The moon was bright in the heaven, my love,
When we wandered by the sea,
And shines she now as she then did shine
When I breathed my love to thee.

The moon looks down from her throne above,
As she did with light divine,
That made thy smile like an angel’s love,
When it gave thy heart to mine.

And oft her face sheds a hallowed light,
