Biography

Shilo Shaffer Myers was born in Leechburg, Pennsylvania. He received his early training in the district school and later attended Leechburg Academy and Elder’s Ridge Normal School. He studied music in New York City and at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He spent seven years conducting institutes and musical organizations in every northern state and parts of Canada and served three years as organist at the First Methodist Church in Duluth, Minnesota. He then became Director of the Music Department at Miami University of Ohio and the Ohio State Normal College. He died in Columbus, Ohio. He wrote or compiled over 22 different music textbooks for schools, choirs and colleges.
