A hungry fox one day did spy
Some nice rich grapes, that hung so high;
And as they hung, they seemed to say
To the fox, who underneath did stay,
“If you can fetch us down, you may!”

The fox his patience nearly lost,
And all his expectations crossed;
He licked his lips for near an hour,
Till he found the prize beyond his power—
And then he said the grapes were sour.
