Now to the earth in mercy a Saviour is given,
See! for a ransom a Child is descended from Heaven;
Kings bring him presents, and angels extol Him with singing,
Rose of the world! for our joy from a Virgin upspringing.

Bring Him not gold, no splendour His kingdom requireth;
Nay! bring not frankincense, He no burnt off'rings desireth;
Bring Him not myrrh, over Him death hath no domination;
Throne of our love! we our hearts bring in pure adoration.
